More writ against code will come tomorrow

Kathmandu, November 19- The NGO Federation of Nepal organised a Special National Conference and decided to conduct a nationwide campaign of protests against the recently introduced code of conduct for NGOs and INGOs, according to a statement issued here today.
The conference chaired by Dr Arjun Karki, president of the NGO Federation, passed the proposals and programmes for the nationwide protest movement.

The release said a case would be filed at the Supreme Court on November 20 in co-ordination with other federations. As a gesture of protest, on November 25, all the social workers would join their duties with black bands on their arms and display placards protesting the code of conduct for a week.

It has been decided to form central, regional and district level movement committees to address the demands and problems of the NGOs. As part of protests, protest programmes would be held in five development regions on December 2, and district-level protest programmes would be held on December 16.

It has also been decided to stress on discussions to sever NGOs’ affiliation with the Social Welfare Council if the code of conduct is not withdrawn in a month.
