SC seeks govt clarification on ‘contempt of court’
Kathmandu May 19-The Supreme Court Thursday ordered the government to come up with clarification within 15 days as to why it was failing to obey the court rulings.
A single bench of SC Justice Arjun Prasad Singh issued the show-cause notice deciding on a writ petition filed by the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) on Wednesday. The NBA in its petition argued that the arrest of student leader Rajendra Rai from the court premises on Monday- even after the court order for his release- amounted to contempt of court.
Cabinet vice-chairmen Dr Tulsi Giri and Kirti Nidhi Bista, Home Minister Dan Bahadur Shahi and Inspector General of Police Shyam Bhakta Thapa opponents were made opponents in the writ.
The SC also ruled that the government present Rai before the court on Friday.
