Court frees MP’s murder accused

Sanjay Mahato, who had been in police custody on the charge of being involved in the murder of MP of Siraha, Krishna Charan Shrestha for the last 37 days, was released on date, Thursday.
Police had taken him into custody after his motorcycle was found to have been used by those assailants who had shot Shrestha dead.

He was released following the order of the District Court, Siraha.

Mahato has been claiming that his motorbike was forcibly taken by one of those involved in Shrestha's killing.

Although the brother of the deceased had filed a complaint with the police clearly mentioning the names of 10 persons allegedly involved in the murder, it was withdrawn later after locals pressurized him as Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) had already owned up the killing. After Shrestha's murder, irate locals had nabbed and lynched two of the fleeing murderers while a local was shot dead by the murderers in the incident on September 23.
