SC Judges Oppose PAC Decision on Impeachment
The Supreme Court judges attending a full court meeting of Court on firday opposed the Parliamentary Account Committee’s recommendation to the House of Representatives to begin process for impeachment of SC judges involved in the verdict relating to the Mahalaxmi Sugar Mills.

Justice Anup Raj Sharma emerging out of the meeting said that nobody has the right to review any verdict once already made by the Supreme Court. Sharma said, “We have always said that theoretically, there is no such provision to review the SC’s verdict once it is made.” However, he admitted it has its own provisions and processes to review any SC decision.

According to SC registrar Ram Krishna Timilsina, the judges present in the full court meeting opposed the PAC decision saying that the PAC has taken a decision outside its jurisdiction and the decision will ultimately affect the independence of the judiciary.

Even though the House itself can initiate impeachment action, the PAC has no right to recommend impeachment motion against the judges, Timilsina quoted the judges as saying.

The Parliamentary Account committee led by MP Chitra Bahadur KC, after studying the verdict, had on Sunday recommended the House to impeach the judges involved in the verdict saying that the verdict in the case was influenced and the judges involved were incapable of working as the SC judges.
