12 years jail for cow slaughter
Kathmandu April 3 - District court of Sankhuwasabha has slapped a 12 years jail to a woman on charges of killing a cow for meat. Judge Bhupendra Rai passed the verdict against Kripa Bhoteni, 50, a resident of Khandbari Municipality - of Sankhuwasabha district.
Police had filed a case against Bhoteni two weeks ago for slaughtering the three-year old cow.
As the only Hindu kingdom in the world, Nepali law recognizes slaughtering cow as a crime and anyone involved in the act is subject to punishment.
