CJ must resign : MP's

CPN-UML MP Ishwar Pokharel today demanded resignation of Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Paudel, SC Justice Pawan Kumar Ojha and Chief Election Commissioner Keshav Raj Raj Bhandari.Speaking in the House, Pokharel said the three should either resign from their posts or the parliament will take action (impeachment) against them. He said the Chief Justice should quit his job for failing to maintain the independence of judiciary. The CJ appointed Shambhu Bahadur Khadka, who was working for the Royal Commission for Corruption Control (RCCC), as an appellate court judge illegally. Pokharel accused Ojha of backing the royal takeover of February 1, 2005 and helping to suppress the people’s movement.

He said Chief Election Commissioner Keshav Raj Raj Bhandari helped the autocratic resume to prolong its rule. “They are the agents of regression and they all should be sacked,” he said, adding, “If they do not resign from their posts, the Parliament should initiate action (impeachment) against them.”

Similarly, Nepali Congress MP Devendra Raj Kandel sought impeachment of CIAA chief Surya Nath Upadhyaya, accusing him of involvement in financial irregularities in Mahakali and Bagmati irrigation projects. Kandel said impeachment should be initiated against Upadhyaya if he does not put in h is papers.
