Rayamajhi commission took oath of office

Chairman of the government formed judicial commission to probe the suppression of the pro-democracy movement, Krishna Jung Rayamajhi said Wednesday that the commission would perform its duty as per the people's aspirations expressed during the movement.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at the Supreme Court, Rayamajhi today said, "We have a responsibility to find out and recommend to the government the necessary actions against the guilty culprits, who in the name of suppressing the movement, used excessive force and misused their power."He also said that the commission would investigate issues of human rights violations, damage to life and property since last year's Feb.1 royal takeover.

He also said that the commission would probe financial irregularities carried out ocer the period— Feb.1, 2005-April 24, 2006.

Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Poudel administrated the oath of office and secrecy to the five members of the commission.

The other members of the commission are: Harihar Birahi, Ram Kumar Shrestha, Ram Prasad Shrestha and Dr. Kiran Shrestha.

Issuing the terms of reference to the newly formed commission, the government on Tuesday gave authority to the commission to probe, recommend and advise the government to take action against the guilty.
