CoAS defends appointment

The Chief of Army Staff Gen Rookmangud Katawal on wednesday defended his appointment. In a written affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, Katawal said his date of birth submitted while joining the army was based on certificates and that he did change it.

He was responding to a show cause notice issued by the apex court on a writ petition filed by advocate Dilhari Sharma challenging his appointment. The advocate had accused Katawal of producing false date of birth while joining the force and claimed that he was supposed to retire four years ago.

The Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PMO) and the Ministry of Defence have claimed that the appointment was made in accordance with existing laws and for the interest of the government of Nepal.
