The government has agreed to provide security to the justices of the Supreme Court and judges of the special, district and appellate courts immediately. The arrangement has been made after the murder attempt of Supreme Court justice Kedar Prasad Giri on Thursday.
Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula met with Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Poudel today and expressed commitment from the government's side to provide one security personnel to each judge for their security. In the initial phase, Supreme Court justices would get the facility. Gradually, such arrangements would be made for judges of the special, district and appellate court as well. On Thursday evening, Prabhat Kumar Gupta, a permanent resident of Birgunj attacked justice Giri at his house at Ghattekulo. Gupta had entered the residence on the pretext of giving Giri a 'confidential letter'.
Meanwhile, the police filed the case against Gupta on charge of attempt murder at the Kathmandu Metropolitan police.
