RPP's Rana Moves Court

Kathmandu, Jan 12-Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) chairman Pashupati Shumshere JB Rana today filed a writ petition in the Patan Appellate Court seeking the court’s stay order to the Election Commission not to give legitimacy to the breakaway faction of the party and to give recognition to his party as the legitimate RPP.

The court, giving priority to the case, has scheduled hearing on it at 11:00 am tomorrow.

The RPP breakaway faction had yesterday informed the Election Commission that the special convention of the party had elected Kamal Thapa as the new president by expelling Rana from the top post.

The breakaway RPP on Tuesday elected Kamal Thapa as RPP president and claimed their RPP as the legitimate one.Rana said the special convention was illegal and so are the decisions whatsoever it might have taken.Rana had sacked 10 CWC members including Thapa from the party on Monday for trying to split the party by calling illegitimate special convention. In a dramatic move, the dissidents retaliated by ‘sacking’ Rana himself from the party top post during their special convention on Tuesday.
