Advocates challenge SC

Kathmandu, Dec 9-A group of advocates on thrusday moved the Supreme Court, challenging the Supreme Court’s refusal to register a writ petition against the continuation of tenure of the Speaker, Taranath Ranabhat, who has been holding the position even after the termination of his five-year tenure. Advocates Hari Bahadur Mainali, Shreedhar Ngakhusi Shrestha and Rajan Prasad Banjara filed the petition after the Supreme Court, citing some constitutional provisions, refused to register the stay order.

The petitioner have demanded that a bench of judges hear the case. Ranabhat and his deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Chitra Lekha Yadav, are the only elected representatives, who have been holding their positions in the House of Representatives.
The two do not have the right to remain in office as their tenures have expired, the petitioners said.
