CIAA warns minister Shrestha for irregularities

Kathmandu Dec 7-The Commission for Investigation of the Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has warned Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Durga Shrestha to return all extra-legal allowances and facilities she had received from National Women’s Commission (NWC) and Social Welfare Council (SWC).

The CIAA has also warned her not to repeat such mistakes in the future.Acting upon complaints filed against the royal appointed senior minister, the CIAA formed a probe team to investigate alleged irregularities by her, reports Kantipur daily.

The team found Shrestha’s involvement in taking extra benefits in abuse of her position.The complaints filed at CIAA stated that Minister Shrestha had taken four vehicles from SWC and NWC and 280 liters of petrol every week. Ministers are entitled to 180 liters of petrol every week.

The investigation team also found that she is unnecessarily holding four meetings in a week taking Rs 500 per meeting. The probe committee also stated that she is holding meeting unnecessarily and recruiting her near and dear ones in SWC.

The CIAA team has also uncovered details on her misuse of vehicles. She has provided the SWCs’ land cruiser with registration number BA 3 CHA 2749 to her husband and also provided two motorcycles to her personal assistants who are not entitled to any government vehicle
