Hetauda Appellate Court orders RA not to threaten journo

Kathmandu Dec 13-The Appellate Court of Hetauda, Monday, ordered the regional administrator (RA) Rabindra Chakrabarti and District Police Office of Hetauda not to threaten, interrogate and torture journalist Santosh Neupane.

Acting upon a petition filed by Neupane, judge Purushottam Parajuli asked the RA and the police office to furnish a written reply on why they recently threatened Neupane, who is the editor of Hetauda Sandesh, a local daily newspaper.

On December 4, the royal nominated regional administrator Chakrabarti had interrogated and threatened journalist Neupane not to publish any news against the government and the local administration.

In the petition, Neupane had sought an order to the administrator and the local authorities not to take any action against him on the charge of writing news.

The order came at a time when the Supreme Court is examining a number of media related cases.
