CIAA files graft case against NEA employees

Kathmandu, Sep. 5: The Commission for Investigation of the Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Sunday filed a corruption case at the Special Court against two officials of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). Kathmandu mid-distribution centre Krishna Sharan Sharma and engineer Niraj Subedi on charges of taking bribe from customers.
Sharma was caught red-handed by the Commission, while taking Rs. 25,000 bribe from Dilendra Maharjan, resident of Jyatha, Thamel. Maharjan had gone to the office asking to replace his burned electric metre.Subedi have been accused taking bribe from Shyam Sundar Agrawal. Subedi had taken Rs. 29,786 more than Agrawal had to pay to the NEA.
For Sharma, the Commission has demanded six-month jail term and forfeited equal amount he had taken from the customer and fourt-month jail term for Subedi.
The Commission also instructed the NEA to take departmental action against senior metre reader Hemanta Singh for failing to fulfill his responsibility according to NEA's Service Regulation Act.
