Hearings on RCCC case continue

Kathmandu Sept 13-The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered for the release of former minister Rajiv Parajuli as hearings continue on the legal status of the Royal Commission for Corruption Control (RCCC).
A special bench of the apex court comprising Justices Kedar Prasad Giri, Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, Ram Nagina Singh, Anup Raj Sharma, Ram Prasad Shrestha heard a public interest litigation filed by advocate Santosh Kumar Mahato challenging the constitutional status of the RCCC.
Pleading on behalf of the petitioner, president of Nepal Bar Association Shambhu Thapa said the Commission had been constituted by violating fundamental laws of the land and, hence, should be scrapped immediately. Former Minister and lawyer, Subash Nemwang, said the Commission’s mandate—to investigate, prosecute and hand out judgment—is against the principles of natural justice.
The hearings would continue on Thursday.
