Kathmandu, September 13-The Supreme Court today freed former minister and RPP leader Rajiv Parajuli on the guarantee of chairman of Nepal Bar Association, Shambhu Thapa.
Parajuli was in the detention of the Royal Commission for Corruption Control (RCCC) in a corruption case after he denied posting a bail of Rs 5.1 million fixed by the commission
The commission arrested Parajuli on charges of corruption and illegally amassing property worth Rs 15.3 million during his tenure as parliamentarian and minister.
The court issued the order to free Parajuli responding to a case filed in the Supreme Court challenging his detention and the constitutionality of the commission.
Mainwhile, The Royal Commission for Corruption Control (RCCC) told its spokesperson and Investigation Officer Prem Raj Karki not to move the apex court challenging its verdict on Prime Minister’s Relief Fund case. The RCCC, two month ago, had given a clean chit to former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and other six former ministers in a case related to use of the fund. “The commission today ordered me not to move the Supreme Court citing confusions over its appeal rights against its own verdict,” Karki said.
