Kathmandu, Aug 31-The Supreme Court today issued directives to the Election Commission to make provisions so as to make all election procedures in the country as much transparent as possible.
The Supreme Court told the Election Commission to initiate process for promulgation of laws, if needed, to ensure transparency in the poll process. The court ordered the commission to seek details from the candidates on their qualification, property and estimated expenditures for fighting for elections.
A division bench of justices Min Bahadur Rayamajhi and Hari Jung Sijapati issued the directives responding to a writ petition filed by a group of lawyers including Mihir Kumar Thakur three years ago demanding SC order to the EC so that it could ensure fair and transparent polls.
The Election Commission has been saying that it was prepared to hold municipal polls within the current year of the Nepali calendar and is readying to announce dates for the same within mid-October.
