Constitution will be activated only after the parliamentary elections: AG

Rajbiraj, Nov 10-Attorney General Pawan Kumar Ojha said today that the only way to make the Nepali people sovereign is to hold an election to the House of Representatives as envisioned in the present constitution.

Addressing the inaugural function of the Work Evaluation and Professional Training of District Attorneys organised by the Office of Attorney General in Rajbiraj, Ojha said: “Constitution will be activated only after the parliamentary elections, hence the present necessity is to go to parliamentary polls rather than reinstate the dissolved House”

Claiming that the present constitution has considered the King as a main factor responsible for providing rights to the people, Ojha said, “There isn't any significance in doubting the King's belief that the country must be run as per the peoples’ wishes”.

Ojha suggested the opponents of the recently promulgated media ordinance to read the fiat than just say it restricts right to information. “Those in the government have the responsibility to do right things rather than to see what is popular and what is not,” he said, adding: “Previous governments tried to gain mere popularity and brought country to this condition. The government has the right to take action against anyone who break laws.”

Ojha also claimed that the parliamentary committees in the past had suggested bringing similar kinds of media laws to regulate the Press.
