Contempt of Court Case Against NBA

Kathmandu, Nov 14-Advocate Bodh Bahadur Raut filed a contempt of court case today at the Supreme Court against Nepal Bar Association and its officials, accusing them of disrespecting the apex court and its ruling on the controversial media ordinance and Kantipur FM.

According to a source, the petition has accused the NBA leadership of disrespecting the judiciary and its judges Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Paudel and justices Kedar Prasad Giri and Sharada Prasad Pundit who delivered the ruling refusing a stay order against the implementation of the ordinance.

The petition has also sought apex court orders against the NBA office bearers, to either slap them with jail-terms of upto a year or fine of upto Rs 10,000, or both, as per the Article 96 (1) of the Constitution and the Supreme Court Act 2048.

The NBA officials had flouted the Supreme Court verdict yesterday at a sit-in programme. They had accused the SC of denying peoples’ rights, including their right to speech and expression, and of undermining press freedom.
