Final hearing started against home minister

Kathmandu, Nov 14- SC today started a final hearing on a corruption case against home minister Dan Bahadur Shahi and assistant minister of education and sports Senate Shrestha. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed an appeal in the SC seeking its order to overturn the Patan Appellate Court ruling that gave the duo a clean chit some seven years ago.

A division bench of justices Kedar Prasad Giri and Arjun Prasad Singh is examining the case. During the hearing, CIAA advocate Nanda Bahadur Subedi said the minister duo and former minister Padma Sundar Lawoti were involved in misappropriating Rs 70 million while importing fertiliser from various countries. Subedi also sought fines and jail terms on them.

Same As, The Supreme Court today summoned former Chief Justice Hari Prasad Sharma and his brother Narayan Prasad in connection with their decade-old property dispute.

A division bench of justices Ram Nagina Singh and Paraman Jha said there are still groundsto review their case though it was settled by the SC some eight years ago.Sharma had filed a case against his mother Jhupa Kumar accusing her of giving away some 25 bighas of land to his brother Narayan and nephews Sishir and Basanta without his consent.

Despite the ruling by the district court and the Banke Appellate Court, the dispute was taken to the SC where Sharma won the case.

Narayan Prasad had filed a plea some four years ago seeking to overturn the SC verdict that upheld the appellate court judgment in favour of Sharma.
