SC Issues Show Cause to NBA

Kathmandu, Nov 16-The Supreme Court (SC) today issued show cause notices to the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) and its 13 office bearers, including president Sambhu Thapa, in response to a contempt of court case filed in the apex court on Monday.

Following today’s hearing, a single bench of justice Parmanand Jha asked the NBA and its office bearers to furnish their written explanations within seven days as to why a contempt of court charge should not be made against them.

Bodh Bahadur Raut Chhetri of Mahankal, Kathmandu, had filed the case against NBA and its members for ‘making fun’ of the apex court and its ruling on the controversial media ordinance and the Kantipur FM cases.

The petitioner accused the NBA leadership of disrespecting the judiciary and the justices, including Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Paudel.

Mainwhile Nepal Bar Association (NBA) on Tuesday abruptly decided to withdraw its nationwide boycott of court's proceedings, slated for Wednesday, following a discussion with Chief Justice and senior justices of the Supreme Court
