Kathmandu, Nov 17-A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed at the Supreme Court against the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Nepal Telecom and Nepal Telecom Authority, seeking the apex court's order to provide mobile services in a proper manner.
Advocates Hari Bahadur Mainali and Shreedhar Dakhusi filed the PIL accusing the Telecom of levying unreasonable charges from its customers and failing to give proper services. There are lots of problems like network failure, disruption of connection at the time of conversation, low and unclear voices, unnecessary line cut-off, busy networks and so on.
The petitioners have argued that the Telecom had been exploiting its clients both economically and psychologically by failing to render efficient services and taking advantage of the customers’ craze to possess a mobile set.
As per the Article 20 (1) of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal 1990, the poor services of the Telecom was against the right against exploitation of the clients, which was being meted out in the name of providing facilities to them, the petitioners have argued.
The Telecom has provided temporary services in the different districts across the county and has been depriving the clients of using mobile facility by not resuming the services, the petition has stated.
The petitioners have demanded that the court issue an order to the Telecom to form a committee to study the existing shortcomings in the services and thereby protect the right of the clients.
