Giri furnishes reply to court

Kathmandu, Nov 15 - Vice-chairman of the Council of Ministers, Dr Tulsi Giri, has sent a written clarification to the Supreme Court claiming that he had never made any remarks in contempt of the court and justices.

Refuting the charges of contempt of court, while delivering a speech in Rautahat, Giri said, "The case has been filed against me with ill intention to defame and show me as 'anti-democratic'."

On October 30, while speaking at a program in Rautahat, Giri had said that a group of worthless journalists and lawyers had been approaching the court for unnecessary issues to hassle it and even the justices might have been fed up with them.

Noting his remarks, advocates Taranath Dhungana and Laxmi Kumar Khadka had filed charge sheets separately, against Giri claiming that his remarks were in contempt of the judiciary. The Supreme Court had sought written clarification from Giri based on the petitions of the advocates.
