SC Calls Bar for Discussion on Protest Plan

Kathmandu, Nov15-The Supreme Court (SC) today called the Nepal Bar Association for a discussion regarding the latter’s announcement of a nationwide boycott of court proceedings tomorrow to protest Friday’s ruling of the apex court on the controversial media ordinance case.

The Chief Justice himself initiated the move to convince NBA representatives not to boycott court proceedings.

Meanwhile, executive committee of the NBA is holding a meeting to decide whether or not to take part in the meeting called by the Chief Justice.

On Friday, the apex court did not issue an interim order to the government on a case filed against the recently promulgated media ordinance, which has stringent provisions to curtail press freedom.

On Sunday, around 200 lawyers held a sit-in wearing black armbands at the Supreme Court premises, protesting against the SC’s decision not to issue a stay order against the ordinance and its decision against Kantipur FM.
