Kathmandu, Nov 7-The Supreme Court today issued a show cause notice to the vice-chairman of the Council of Ministers, Dr Tulsi Giri, asking him the reasons why he spoke against the Supreme Court, judges and the lawyers recently.
A single bench of Justice Top Bahadur Magar issued the notice to Dr Giri following today's hearing. Advocates Ram Prasad Bhattarai, Tara Nath Dhungana and Laxmi Kumar Khadka pleaded fofr the court action. The advocates have urged the apex court to take up the issue seriously, saying Dr Giri had been insulting the apex court repeatedly.
Two of these advocates, Laxmi Kumar Khadka and Tara Nath Dhungana filed two separate cases against Dr Giri, accusing him of trying to mislead the Supreme Court at a time when the apex court is seriously examining the recently-promulgated controversial media ordinance.
The petitioners claimed that Dr Giri's speech in Rautahat district on October 30 misled the Supreme Court and would only cause harassment of the common people who seek justice by filing cases in the courts.
Dr Giri had accused lawyers and journalists of filing cases again and again against the government to create hurdles in the official work to the point that even the judges were getting annoyed.
