Judiciary is playing active role : CJ Poudel

Kathmandu Nov 5-Chief Justice (CJ) Dilip Kumar Poudel has said that the judiciary is playing active role to protect people's basic rights at a time when legal procedures are not working.

Inaugurating a three day regional environmental conference of the non-governmental organizations of Asia and Pacific region on Friday he added that the judiciary is playing active role to fulfill the gap between the laws and their implementation.

CJ Poudel also informed that the Supreme Court is active in the field of environmental laws and had given many verdicts through the interpretations of the environmental laws.

"I hope we could do more for the protection of Human Rights and Environmental Justice," reports quoted CJ Poudel as saying.

Stating that we could not correct the past mistakes Poudel said that we have to learn lesson from these mistakes.

Poudel also pointed out the need of suitable policies for access and sustainable use of natural resources.

The Apex Court is yet to give verdict in many important cases like reinstatement of the House of Representatives, constitutionality of the controversial Royal Commission for Corruption Control and recently promulgated Media Ordinance
