NBA urges Maoists to release ex-PM’s son.

Kathmandu Nov 4-The Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has urged the Maoist insurgents to immediately release Arun Chand, son of former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand, who was abducted from far-western Kailali district nine days ago.

Issuing a statement Wednesday, the NBA asked the rebels to release Chand immediately and safely abiding by international humanitarian laws.

Chand, 35, executive director of Basuling Sugar Mills based in Kailali, was abducted by a group of Maoists on October 27 from Chuha area of the same district, saying his factory failed to pay the labourers reasonably.

The sugar mill has been a loss-making venture for quite some time and has been enlisted as loan defaulter.

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sent a team to the far-western region to gather information on the abduction of the ex-PM’s son and take initiatives for his release.

However, the Maoists are yet to respond to these calls while Arun’s whereabouts remain still unknown
